How We Help
Mrs. Mathis’ Home Restored
Mrs. Mathis, a senior in Richmond, Texas, lost much of her home during Hurricane Harvey. With support from Fort Bend Recovers and funding provided to Attack Poverty, her foundation, roof, walls, kitchen, and bathrooms were fully repaired. She expressed deep gratitude, thanking volunteers for giving her a safe and beautiful home again.
“Thank you for giving me a beautiful home again.”
A Father Reunited with His Children
One single father of four young children lost everything when more than five feet of water flooded his mobile home. Unable to live in the house, he stayed in a tent and a small RV while his children lived with relatives. Guided by his disaster case manager, he secured a new mobile home, received funding for elevation and furniture, and was reunited with his children.
“I didn’t think we’d ever recover, but now I see anything is possible.”
Returning to Normalcy for a Single Father
Another single father of three suffered storm damage to his roof, windows, furniture, and appliances. Denied FEMA assistance, he patched what he could with limited support until Fort Bend Recovers stepped in. With home repair assistance and new furniture—including beds for his children—his family regained stability just in time for the school year.
“This furniture gave my children a sense of home again.”
A Safe Home for a Vulnerable Couple
An elderly couple in Arcola, both living with disabilities, struggled after Harvey left their mobile home uninhabitable. With no insurance or FEMA aid, they continued using flood-damaged furniture and appliances while one spouse managed serious health issues. Their disaster case manager presented their case, and Fort Bend Recovers provided new furniture and appliances valued at $3,490. Now, they are one step closer to living in a safe, sanitary, and dignified home.
“Having clean furniture and appliances brings us peace of mind.”
